“Life is so full.”
After paragliding at 70 years of age and running a guest ranch in Arizona, you may suppose Mary has begun slowing a bit in her latter years. Not so. This dynamo hits the weights several times a week in the Westerleigh PARC gym, attends a balance and stretch class, and walks a lot.
“I just love exercise,” she says. “If I don’t exercise, I don’t feel well.” Mary demonstrates how she can lift her leg to the height of a ballet bar and stretch to reach her foot.
She exercises her mind as well, playing Duplicate Bridge, attending weekly quiz sessions, completing crosswords, watching documentaries and attending the symphony. It seems Mary’s memory benefits from her endeavours, because when her kids or grandkids lose their cell phones, they call her for the numbers. “I remember them all.” she smiles.
With life going full-speed for Mary, she couldn’t be happier. Her advice to others? “You have to keep active… and you always have to see the fun in life.” Clearly, she does.
That’s how it is at Westerleigh PARC: residents get involved. They stay active. And pursue passions. They eat healthier and laugh more. And with PARC’s focus on Independent Living+ program, it’s easy to see how life’s just better here.
